The Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) is a Group ‘A’ Central Civil Service of the Republic of India established to offer financial advice, payment, accounts, and audit services to the Defence Services, including the Indian Armed Forces (such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard) and affiliated organizations like Defence Public Sector Undertakings, Military Engineer Services, Border Roads Organisation, Defence Research and Development Organisation, among others.

The Indian Defence Accounts Service, classified as a Group 'A' Central Civil Service, is established to deliver financial advice, payment, accounts, and audit services to the Defence Services. This includes the Indian Armed Forces and associated organizations such as Defence Public Sector Undertakings, Military Engineer Services, Border Roads Organisation, and Defence Research and Development Organisation.
Recruitment to the IDAS primarily occurs through the annual Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) acts as the cadre controlling authority (CCA) for IDAS.
Approximately 550 officers make up this Group-A gazetted civilian service. The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) not only leads the service but also serves as the apex authority overseeing the Defence Accounts Department.
Upon entry into the Indian Defence Accounts Service, officers undergo foundational training alongside peers from other Central/All India services at one of the National Academies. Following this, they participate in induction training at CENTRAD, Brar Square, Delhi Cantt, and undergo a Professional Training Course at NIFM, Faridabad. Subsequent Departmental Training at NADFM, Pune, contributes to their professional development.
The minimum age requirement is 21 years, with a maximum age limit of 32 years. Age relaxations apply to specific categories, including SC/ST, OBC, residents of J&K, physically handicapped individuals, and Defense candidates.
