ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise

Context:

The maiden ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME) is set to begin, with war games in South China Sea- a step further in the expanding India-ASEAN (Association of SouthEast Asian Nations) military cooperation.

About ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise 2023:

- AIME 2023 will provide an opportunity for Indian Navy and ASEAN navies to conduct seamless operations in the maritime domain.

Different Phases:

- ‘Harbour Phase’:
  - Changi Naval Base in Singapore

‘Sea Phase’

South China Sea

Significance:
- India becomes the 4th ASEAN dialogue partner, after Russia, China and the US to hold the ASEAN+1 maritime exercise.

INS Delhi is India’s first indigenously-built guided missile destroyer.
INS Satpura is an indigenously built guided missile stealth frigate.
