Context: 

The maiden ASEAN­-India Maritime Exercise (AIME) is set to begin, with war games in South China Sea- a step further in the expanding India­-ASEAN (Association of SouthEast Asian Nations) military cooperation.

About ASEAN­-India Maritime Exercise 2023: 

    • AIME ­2023 will provide an opportunity for Indian Navy and ASEAN navies to conduct seamless operations in the maritime domain. 
  • Different Phases:
    • Harbour Phase’:
      • Changi Naval Base in Singapore 
  • Sea Phase
  • South China Sea
  • Significance: 
    • India becomes the 4th ASEAN dialogue partner, after Russia, China and the US to hold the ASEAN+1 maritime exercise.

  • INS Delhi is India’s first indigenously-built guided missile destroyer.
  • INS Satpura is an indigenously built guided missile stealth frigate.
