Context:
The Union government approved the second phase of the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) project.
About CITIIS Project:
- CITIIS, or the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain, is a sub-component of the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission.
- Aim: To promote integrated waste management and climate oriented reform actions.
- Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Implementing partners: French Development Agency (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the European Union (EU), and National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA)
- Span: Four years from 2023 to 2027.
- Funding for CITIIS 2.0:
- A loan of ₹1,760 crore from AFD and KfW, split equally
- A technical assistance grant of ₹106 crore from the European Union.
- Major components:
- Financial and technical support for developing projects focused on building climate resilience
- Adaptation and mitigation in up to 18 smart cities
- Interventions at centre, State and city levels to further climate governance.
