About Planetary Boundaries:

  • Planetary boundaries are the thresholds of environmental limits that define a “safe operating space for humanity”. 
  • The Nine Planetary boundaries are:

Which planetary boundaries are breached by Humans?

  • Climate change, Biodiversity loss, Land-use change, and geochemical cycles. These breaches are directly linked to human-induced desertification, land degradation, and drought.

Significance of Planetary Boundaries:

  • The planetary boundaries framework,  sets limits on how much we can allow ourselves to impact not only the climate but also the other global processes that are critical for maintaining conditions on Earth that can support modern civilization.
