Should the CJI be part of the committee selecting the CEC?

Context:

The Union government recently introduced a Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

This Bill proposes a new composition for the selection panel responsible for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other Election Commissioners (ECs).
The panel will now include:
- The Prime Minister, who will serve as the chairperson.
- The Leader of the Opposition, who will become a member of the panel.
- A Union Cabinet Minister nominated by the Prime Minister.

Should the CJI be part of the committee selecting the CEC?

For	Against
If CJI is in the committee, then it will bring expertise.	Presence of CJI infringes on parliamentary sovereignty to decide the composition of the Parliamentary panel.
It will bring independence to the functioning of the Election Commission.	It will give rise to judicial activism.

Conclusion:

It is argued that the presence of CJI to be part of the committee selecting the CEC will enhance the trust of people in the Election Commission and help in deepening democracy.
