Indian Army Day of 2024 celebrates the 76th anniversary of the Indian Army’s first Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa, taking over the reins from the British in 1949.
From 1949 till 2022, the Army Day parade was organised at the Cariappa Parade Ground in the Delhi Cantonment. In 2023, the Southern Command was in charge of the parade in Bengaluru.
