October 1959: The Heroic Stand of India’s Patrol Party in Ladakh

  • Event: On October 21, 1959, a patrol party comprising 20 personnel from CRPF and Intelligence Bureau ventured into Ladakh to search for a missing reconnaissance party. 
    • In a sudden and fierce ambush, they found themselves outnumbered and at a tactical disadvantage against the heavily armed Chinese Army (PLA). 
    • Valour: Despite these odds, these brave officers exhibited unparalleled valour, engaging the enemy in a determined defence of their country.
    • Ten CRPF personnel laid down their lives in this battle, their martyrdom becoming a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Indian police force.
