pregnancy care <\/span><b>in Gujarat\u2019s tribal districts is 88%\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approximately <\/span><b>80% of women receive antenatal care (ANC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), and 90% give birth at healthcare facilities, and 92% receive postnatal care (PNC) for themselves and their infants.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Regional Disparity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Districts in the <\/span><b>north near Rajasthan and northwest near Madhya Pradesh are the worst performing, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while the best-performing districts are in the south near Maharashtra.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Lower ANC coverage:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Districts such as<\/span><b> Banaskantha, Mahisagar, Sabarkantha, Dahod, and Bharuch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record low levels of\u00a0 ANC coverage<\/span>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Districts\u00a0 with higher overall pregnancy care rates have also witnessed a neglect of ANC, which is particularly concerning.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Meeting WHO Standards: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Districts including <\/span><b>Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad demonstrate better pregnancy car<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e outcomes meeting WHO standards.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Districts of<\/span><b> Banaskantha and Bharuch demonstrate low levels of\u00a0 pregnancy care even falling below the WHO-prescribed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thresholds in at least two care indicators.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Geographical Constraints: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over <\/span><b>50% of households reside more than 25 km away from tertiary care facilities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while about 30% of households live away from community healthcare centres and primary healthcare centres\u00a0 limiting\u00a0 women\u2019s access to health facilities even during pregnancy-related emergencies.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unavailability of health centres near the tribal hamlets <\/span><b>results in inadequate levels of ANC and PNC care after pregnancy.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Population Bias:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Many rural and tribal residents experience inadequate access to healthcare facilities, as resources are<\/span><b> concentrated in urban areas to manage the growing population in smaller urban clusters.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Recommendations of Report:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Ensuring Accessibility to All:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To assess the geographical distribution of the health care centres to ensure that they don&#8217;t remain concentrated in specific regions and are\u00a0 <\/span><b>distributed equitably across all areas to provide timely access to healthcare during pregnancy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To consider both <\/span><b>temporal and spatial aspects of healthcare,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rather than solely focusing on the traditional factors like population and socio-economic factors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Adhering to Established Standards:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The distribution of public health centres is expected to adhere to population norms and geographical considerations<\/span><b> as per Indian Public Health Standards 2022<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Focusing on making transport facilities available: Social norms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and limited resources often prevent women, especially in rural areas, from using motorcycles, and there is <\/span><b>limited public transportation available limiting their access to ANC and PNC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> care.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Policy Focus: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To implement policies that establish<\/span><b> well-equipped and affordable public healthcare centres in easily accessible location<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s with accessible transport options\u00a0 for style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Maternal Mortality Ratio(MMR number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 As per the latest report of the national <\/span><b>Sample Registration system (SRS) data for the period 2018-20, Maternal Mortality Ratio(MMR) is 97\/100,000 live births<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, declining by 33 points, from 130\/ 100,000 live births in 2014-16.<\/span><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between 2000 and 2020, <\/span><b>MMR dropped by 70% (from 327 to 97).\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>India\u2019s Share Globally: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India accounted <\/span><b>for over 17% of global maternal deaths in 2020, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">holding the highest share among the 10 countries responsible for 60% of global maternal deaths, stillbirths, and newborn deaths.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>SDG Target 3.1:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India is likely to achieve the global <\/span><b>2030 SDG target of 70 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, before time.<\/b><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Eight states have already achieved the SDG target ie.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Kerala (19), Maharashtra (33), Telangana (43) Andhra Pradesh (45), Tamil Nadu (54), Jharkhand (56), Gujarat (57), and Karnataka (69).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; color: #000000;\"><b>Government Initiatives<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It seeks to improve the <\/span><b>quality and coverage of diagnostics and counselling services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, along with providing assured comprehensive and quality antenatal care free of cost.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Poshan Abhiyaan: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pregnant Women are among the major target groups of POSHAN Abhiyaan- the government\u2019s flagship programme to<\/span><b> improve nutritional outcomes<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b><a
