5th in Solar Power capacity).\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Total Installed Renewable Energy Capacity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As of October 2024, India\u2019s total renewable energy installed capacity stands at <\/span><b>203.18 GW f<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rom 178.98 GW in October 2023<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Total Non-Fossil Fuel Capacity:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It<\/span><b> stands at 211.36 GW in 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, compared to 186.46 GW in 2023 <\/span><b>also including Nuclear Energy.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Contribution: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renewable Energy<\/span><b> accounts for 46.3 percent of the country&#8217;s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">total installed capacity which has reache<\/span><b>d 452.69 GW<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Target:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India plans to enhance its renewabl<\/span><b>e energy capacity target to 500 GW by 2030 at the COP26<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of a key pledge<\/span><b> under the Panchamrit targets.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Status of Renewable Energy Projects: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of October 2024, <\/span><b>projects of 143.94 GW is under implementation and 89.69 GW are already tendered.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The projects saw an increase from 99.08 GW under implementation and 55.13 GW tendered as of October 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-142812 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/143-67360259ed4c7.webp\" alt=\"Renewable Energy\" width=\"405\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/143-67360259ed4c7.webp 768w, https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/143-67360259ed4c7-300x188.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><b>Policies and Schemes:\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><b>Governmental Pledges: I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ndia has committed to <\/span><b>reduce the carbon intensity of the nation\u2019s economy by less than 45%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by 2030, and achieve <\/span><b>net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Foreign Direct Investment <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">permitted up to <\/span><b>100 percent under the automatic route <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to attract investments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>National Green Hydrogen Mission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India aims to <\/span><b>produce 5 Mn Tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">revolutionising the green transport sector. The National Green Hydrogen Mission was approved with a budget of\u00a0 INR 19,744 Cr.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It aimed to in<\/span><b>crease the income of farmers by installing\u00a0 solar irrigation pumps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and provide sources of irrigation and de-dieselization the agricultural sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana:\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to<\/span><b> increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y by providing subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost for systems up to 2kW capacity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Significance:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Limit Climate Change:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Renewables are the <\/span><b>cleanest, most viable solution to prevent environmental degradation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as they do not emit greenhouse gases in energy generation processes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Inexhaustible Source:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Clean energies being inexhaustible are <\/span><b>essential for sustainable energy system allowing\u00a0 development <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">today without risking that of future generations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Reducing Energy Dependence: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Dependence on fossil fuel imports <\/span><b>results in subordination to the economic and political short-term goals <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the supplier country, which can compromise the security of energy supply<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Example: The oil wars of the middle east.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Increasing Competitiveness:\u00a0 Economies of scale and innovation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are already resulting in renewable energies <\/span><b>becoming at lightning speed the most sustainable solution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, not only environmentally but also economically, for powering the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Maintenance: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renewable energy systems, like solar panels, <\/span><b>require less maintenance than traditional energy systems.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Local resilience: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renewable energy can provide electricity close to where it&#8217;s used, which can help with local energy resilience<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"vc_table_green\"><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100.043%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 130.811%;
