project.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>About Cauvery-South Vellar Link Project<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Purpose:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To divert surplus floodwater from the<\/span><b> Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to<\/span><b> dry tanks in the Sarabanga Basin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in Salem district.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the project in February 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karnataka argued the project could negatively impact its water rights and citizens along the <\/span><b>Cauvery River:<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project might divert Karnataka\u2019s share of Cauvery water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The South Vellar Link project may involve transferring excess water beyond the agreed limit of 483 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) at Biligundlu.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karnataka urged the Centre to withhold clearance for the project and requested that the <\/span><b>Gundar Link project not be declared a national
