disease (SVD) outbreak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>About Sudan Virus Disease<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sudan virus disease (SVD) is a <\/span><b>viral hemorrhagic fever<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> similar to Ebola, first identified in <\/span><b>southern Sudan in 1976<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Caused by\u00a0 Sudan virus (SUDV) belonging to the Filoviridae family.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is\u00a0 an <\/span><b>enzootic virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> present in <\/span><b>animal reservoirs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in affected regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Reservoir:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Likely found in <\/span><b>bats <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>non-human primates.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-155540 alignright\" style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sudan virus and Ebola virus both belong to the<\/span><b> Orthoebolavirus family <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and cause severe hemorrhagic fever, sharing similar symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding, but<\/span><b> require different vaccines <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">due to genetic differences.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Spread: Person-to-person transmission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> occurs through <\/span><b>direct contact<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood and bodily fluids of infected individuals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contaminated surfaces, materials, and infected animals.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transmission risk <\/span><b>increases with disease severity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\"><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Early Symptoms: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fever, fatigue, muscle pain, sore throat, abdominal pain and anorexia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Progression: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash and hiccups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Severe Cases: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hemorrhagic symptoms (bleeding, petechiae, ecchymoses), encephalopathy, shock, multi-organ failure which may lead to<\/span><b> fatality.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>High Fatality: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a highly fatal disease with the 2022 Sudan virus outbreak\u00a0 in Uganda resulting in 164 cases and 77 deaths showing up to 47% fatality rate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\"><b>Treatment and Control Measures<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>No approved treatments or vaccines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Sudan virus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Supportive care<\/b> <b>improves survival: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fluid replacement, pain management, and treatment of co-infections such as malaria can <\/span><b>avoid fatality.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Preventive measures: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contact tracing, isolation, and strict infection control.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ongoing research: Phase 1 vaccine trials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>monoclonal antibody treatments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are being
