Tangible Incomes) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This effort positions the state at the forefront of mangrove conservation in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Key Highlights<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Gujarat&#8217;s Achievement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It has successfully planted mangroves over <\/span><b>19,020 hectares in two years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>National Target<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The central government aims to plant mangroves across approximately <\/span><b>540 square kilometers (54,000 hectares) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over<\/span><b> five years <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">under the MISHTI scheme.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>About MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats &#038; Tangible Incomes) Scheme<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a government-led program launched in<\/span><b> 2023 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to facilitate mangrove plantation along India&#8217;s coastline and on salt pan lands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This project will span <\/span><b>over five years starting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 2023-24 onwards and will be carried out across<\/span><b> 9 States and 3 Union Territories.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funds:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme operates through the convergence of funds from<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS),\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>The Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other sources.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objective: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The primary objective is the intensive afforestation of coastal mangrove forests to enhance ecological health and provide tangible benefits to local communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>About Mangrove Forests<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mangrove forests are also known as mangrove swamps, mangrove thickets or mangals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are predominantly found along<\/span><b> tropical and subtropical coastlines.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Freezing temperatures are not ideal temperatures for mangroves.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers around <\/span><b>0.1 % of the planet\u2019s surface.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sundarbans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the largest mangrove forest in the world.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This forest is situated in the vast delta of the Bay of Bengal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Distribution of Mangroves<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\"><b>Mangrove Cover &#038;
