{"id":166650,"date":"2025-05-21T21:32:32","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T16:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/?post_type=current-affairs&p=166650"},"modified":"2025-05-21T21:32:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T16:02:32","slug":"field-marshal-rank","status":"publish","type":"current-affairs","link":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/current-affairs\/field-marshal-rank","title":{"rendered":"What is Field Marshal Rank?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Chief of Army Staff<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Pakistan Army,<\/span><b> General Asim Munir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been <\/span><b>promoted to the rank of Field Marshal by the Pakistan government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recently.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He will be the <\/span><b>second person\u00a0 after Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1959 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to hold this rank.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>About Field Marshal Rank<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>5 Star Rank Officer: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Field Marshal or FM i<\/span><b>s a five-star officer rank, and is the highest attainable rank,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> above the general.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Field Marshal rank <\/span><b>is typically bestowed on generals for ceremonial reasons or during wartime<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Entitlements:\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Field Marshal is<\/span><b> entitled to wear his uniform at any event<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he deems fit<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is <\/span><b>considered to be on \u2018active list\u2019 until his death<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> although he does not hold any office in official capacity beyond his date of retirement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>He wears special badges of rank<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has <\/span><b>five stars displayed on his vehicle<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Salute:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Salutes with the<\/span><b> special Field Marshal\u2019s baton is raised to the forehead <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and not the hand as is the norm in a military salute.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Indian Field Marshal: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has had <\/span><b>two FMs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as of now ie,<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Sam Manekshaw <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the first FM ascending to the rank in January 1973.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>KM Cariappa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the second Field Marshal and was promoted in January 1986.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Marshal of the Air Force: Arjan Singh <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was elevated to the rank in 2002<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Equivalence: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FM rank in the Indian Army is equivalent to the Admiral of the fleet in the Indian Navy and the Marshal of the Indian Air Force.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"vc_table_green\"><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 99.5818%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 20.1676%;
