{"id":21782,"date":"2023-06-15T10:50:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-15T05:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/?p=21782"},"modified":"2023-06-26T06:08:36","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T00:38:36","slug":"ncsc","status":"publish","type":"current-affairs","link":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/current-affairs\/ncsc","title":{"rendered":"NCSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Context:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued a notice to Zomato founder and CEO over an inhuman and casteist advertisement that featured a Dalit character from a movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About National Commission for Scheduled Castes:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is an Indian<\/span><b> constitutional body established<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a view to provide safeguards against the exploitation of <\/span><b>Scheduled Castes and Anglo Indian communities.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also seeks to promote and protect their social, educational, economic and cultural interests; special provisions were made in the Constitution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Article 338 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the Indian constitution deals with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Composition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It consists of Chairperson, Vice-chairperson, three other members who are appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Duties of the commission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To investigate and monitor all matters relating to the safeguards provided for the Scheduled Castes under this Constitution.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To enquire into specific complaints with respect to the deprivation of rights and safeguards of the Scheduled Castes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To participate and advise on the planning process of socio-economic development of the Scheduled Castes and to evaluate the progress of their development under the Union and any State<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To present to the President, annually and at such other times as the Commission may deem fit, reports upon the working of those safeguards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make in such reports recommendations as to the measures that should be taken by the Union or any State for the effective implementation of those safeguards and other measures for the protection, welfare and socio-economic development of the Scheduled Castes.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Powers of the Commission:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person from any part of India and examining him on oath.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requiring the discovery and production of any documents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Receiving evidence on affidavits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requisitioning any public record or copy thereof from any court or office.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issuing commissions for the examination of witnesses and documents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any other matter which the President may by rule, determine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><i>News Source: <\/i><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/national-commission-for-scheduled-castes-notice-to-zomato-delhi-police-youtube-over-casteist-advertisement\/article66964808.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>The Hindu <\/i><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Context:\u00a0 The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued a notice to Zomato founder and CEO over an inhuman and casteist advertisement that featured a Dalit character from a movie.
