{"id":24481,"date":"2023-06-27T19:30:31","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T14:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/?post_type=current-affairs&#038;p=24481"},"modified":"2023-06-28T10:52:09","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T05:22:09","slug":"suspension-of-operations-soo-agreement","status":"publish","type":"current-affairs","link":"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/current-affairs\/suspension-of-operations-soo-agreement","title":{"rendered":"Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Manipur Chief Minister said that the Centre would ensure the implementation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki insurgent groups in the hill area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>suspension of operations (SoO) agreement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was sealed in 2008 with the aim of starting a political dialogue with the militant groups in <\/span><b>Manipur.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">25 out of 30 Kuki insurgent groups in Manipur are under tripartite Suspension of Operations (SoO) with the Government of India and the state.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Key Points under\u00a0 Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Security forces, including state and central forces, are not to launch any operations, nor can the underground groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The insurgent signatories shall abide by the Constitution of India, the laws of the land and the territorial integrity of Manipur.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are prohibited from committing all kinds of atrocities, extortion, among others.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The militant cadres are to be confined in designated camps identified by the Government.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arms are deposited in a safe room under a double-locking system.
