400;\">initiative.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Building on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Success:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It builds on the success of the<\/span><b> PMAY scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has facilitated the construction of nearly three crore rural and 80 lakh urban affordable houses since 2015.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\"><b>Modern Technologies in Affordable Housing<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Light House Projects (LHPs): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the framework of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, LHPs are underway as part of Housing Technology Challenge of (GHTC), spanning six sites across six States.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These LHPs<\/span><b> leverage modern technology and innovative processes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so as to <\/span><b>reduce construction time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and build more resilient and affordable houses for the underprivileged.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mivan Technology:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This technology utilises <\/span><b>advanced aluminium framework<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is recyclable and reusable, to cast and construct various building elements.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mivan offers <\/span><b>higher efficiency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>reduces the overall duration and cost of the project.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Concerns Associated With Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Increased Heat Gain: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> extensive use of cement and steel without proper insulation <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">results in increased heat gain from the building envelope, causing <\/span><b>thermal distress.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consequently, occupants resort to <\/span><b>increased use of cooling appliances <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such as air conditioners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This reliance on cooling appliances triggers a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/current-affairs\/data-point-clean-energy-share-in-india-and-its-states-electricity-mix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>surge in electricity consumption<\/b><\/a><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> thereby contributing to elevated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pwonlyias.com\/stage\/ncert-notes\/greenhouse-effect-causes-global-warming-and-patterns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">greenhouse gas (GHG) greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This underscores a critical paradox, wherein a <\/span><b>technology deemed to offer a low-carbon alternative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributes to <\/span><b>elevated emissions during the operational stage.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Way Forward To the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Prioritising thermal comfort:\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The guidelines embedded within building codes, as demonstrated by initiatives such as Eco Niwas Samhita should be implemented.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This framework directs attention towards refining building envelope characteristics pertaining to specific climate zones, thereby facilitating a thermally comfortable environment within built spaces.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Smart Ghar III project: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Smart Ghar III project in Rajkot, an affordable housing initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Untenable Slum Redevelopment project, serves as a prime example of achieving indoor thermal comfort through<\/span><b> passive design implementation.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Incorporate technology: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An ecosystem change is needed across the entire value chain to encourage the adoption and rightful implementation of the codes.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This requires raising awareness and fostering collaboration among stakeholders and incentivising developers to prioritise <\/span><b>passive designs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Address Environmental Impact: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering the growing significance of the building sector and its contribution to GHG emissions, the need to address the environmental impact of construction activities is imperative.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Incorporating environmental awareness into housing projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will enable us to construct homes that not only provide refuge for people but also stand as strong defenses against the <\/span><a
