Project Seabird at Karwar Naval Base, INS Kadamba, and INS Vajrakosh: Elevating India's maritime prowess for security and economic growth in the region
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate several infrastructure facilities of Project Seabird in Naval Base Karwar.
INS Kadamba is a very important component of India’s Naval expansion. The base will secure India’s maritime borders and also ensure growth of India’s security role in the Indian Ocean Region.

Project Seabird is the codename given for the construction of a Naval Base (INS Kadamba) and a missile and ammunition depot (INS Vajrakosh) at Karwar in Karnataka.
Project Seabird was conceived during the 1980s by then Naval Chief Admiral Oscar Stanley Dawson. The actual construction started in 1999 after the Kargil War.
Project Seabird will be developed through multiple phases. The first phase has been completed and currently, phase II A is under implementation.
The Mumbai Naval base is currently the biggest Naval base in the country. INS Kadamba will become the largest Naval Base east of the Suez Canal after completion.
INS Kadamba is an Indian naval Base located on the West Coast of India at Karwar in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.
Geographically, INS Kadamba is located in Binaga Bay between the rugged hills of the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea.
INS Kadamba was named after the Kadamba dynasty, which ruled Karnataka between 345–540 CE.
INS Vajrakosh is a naval station that houses missiles and ammunition of the Indian Navy at Karwar.
