The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Synergy Quantum India Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing to jointly develop quantum key distribution (QKD) technology suited for drone based systems.
About Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)
- Quantum key distribution (QKD) is a secure communication method that implements a cryptographic protocol involving components of quantum mechanics.
- It enables two parties to produce a shared random secret key known only to them, which then can be used to encrypt and decrypt messages.
- Applications Of QKD Technology:
- Defence & Government: Secures classified communications against cyber and quantum threats.
- Critical Infrastructure: Protects power grids, transport, and utilities from hacking.
- Prevents sabotage or cyberattacks on infrastructure vital to national security.
- Finance & Banking : Secures transactions and prevents data breaches.
- Healthcare: Safeguards patient data and medical records.
- Drones & Satellites: Enables mobile, long-range secure communication.
About Quantum Mechanics
- Quantum mechanics is a branch of physics that explains the behavior of matter and energy at the smallest scales—like atoms, electrons, and photons (particles of light).
- ‘Qubits’ or ‘Quantum bits’ are the fundamental units of process by quantum computers.
