Mr Dharmendra Pradhan is serving as the Education Minister of India. The Ministry of Education (MoE) in India is a government department in charge of putting into action the National Policy on Education. This ministry is divided into two parts: one takes care of school education, adult education, and literacy from primary to higher secondary levels, while the other focuses on higher education, technical education, scholarships, and universities.

Since India gained independence, the literacy rate has significantly increased from 12% to 75% in recent years. This improvement in the education system can be credited to the dedication and hard work of our leaders who were committed to enhancing education. Over the years, India has had more than 30 Education Ministers, each contributing admirably to the development of education in our country.

The current Education Minister of India is Dharmendra Pradhan, who is part of the Council of Ministers. India has had a Ministry of Education since 1947. In 1985, during Rajiv Gandhi’s government, its name was changed to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Recently, the Narendra Modi government introduced the “National Education Policy 2020” and renamed the Ministry back to the Ministry of Education.
