it is a Hindu festival associated with divine feminine. The festival is celebrated twice a year, with the first day falling in the month of Chaitra and the second in the month of Sharad.
The battle between goddess Durga and Mahishasura lasted nine days and nights and hence the festival lasts for nine days and nights.
In the state of Gujarat, Navaratri celebrations are constituted by arti, followed by garba, which is a traditional dance associated with Shakti worship. In Eastern India, especially West Bengal, it is synonymous with Durga Puja. Idol of goddess Durga is worshiped for nine days, followed by ritual immersion on the tenth day. In many places goddess Saraswati is worshiped through Ayudha Puja. It falls on the ninth day of Navratri. Ayudha Puja also involves people worshiping their tools and weapons of their trade.
Fasting during this makes it easier for the inner journey towards bliss and joy. The restlessness of the mind is reduced, bringing forth awareness and joy.
The day of Dussehra marks the victory of good over evil. It symbolizes the killing of Mahishasura. The day is also celebrated by burning effigies of Raavan, marking the victory of good over evil.
