UPSC Prelims Cutoff Analysis 2020 will help candidates preparing for UPSC prelims 2024 gauge the changing trends of UPSC prelims. Over the years, cutoff marks for UPSC prelims has drastically decreased. From above 100 marks in 2017 to 98 marks in 2019, the prelims cutoff marks has shown a downward decline.
UPSC prelims cutoff analysis is particularly important for General Studies (Paper 1) as it determines a candidate’s qualification for UPSC mains. The cutoff marks for CSAT (Paper 2) is fixed at 66.67 marks and do not have much importance in analysis.
UPSC prelims consists of two Papers: General Studies (Paper 1) and CSAT (Paper 2). Cutoff marks is the minimum marks a candidate has to score to qualify for UPSC mains. UPSC Prelims Cutoff marks vary according to different categories. While it was 92.51 for General, it was 89.12, 74.84 and 68.71 for OBC, SC and ST respectively. The following table contains cutoff marks for prelims as well as mains and finals:

Looking at the cutoff marks for prelims 2020, we can say that the cutoff marks witnessed a reasonable decline compared to prelims 2019. The cutoff marks for General fell to 92.51 marks, indicating an increasing level of difficulty in the exam.
Even though CSAT marks are fixed and do not undergo changes, there were some interesting developments in the CSAT paper. The analysis of the CSAT paper indicated that the difficulty level of the questions is being raised. It will not be a cakewalk to score 66.67 on the CSAT paper without proper preparation.
