The Defence Acquisition Council approved ₹79,000 crore worth of defence procurements to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

Approved Defence Purchases

Indian Army

• Loiter Munition Systems: Enable precision strikes on tactical targets with improved battlefield flexibility.
• Low Level Light Weight Radars: Enhance detection and tracking of low-flying drones and unmanned aerial systems.
• Long Range Guided Rockets (Pinaka MRLS): Increase range and accuracy for engaging high-value targets.
• IDD&IS Mk-II: Strengthens protection of vital assets against hostile drones in battle areas and hinterland.

Indian Navy

• Bollard Pull Tugs: Assist ships and submarines during harbour manoeuvres in confined waters.
• HF SDR Manpack Radios: Provide secure, long-range communication during boarding and landing operations.
• HALE RPAS (Leasing): Offer persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance across the Indian Ocean Region.

Indian Air Force

• Automatic Take-off & Landing Recording System: Improves aerospace safety with all-weather HD recording.
• Astra Mk-II Missiles: Extend beyond-visual-range air combat capability of fighter aircraft.
• Full Mission Simulators (LCA Tejas): Enable cost-effective and safe pilot training.
• SPICE-1000 Kits: Enhance long-range precision strike capability.

Defence Acquisition Process

• India’s defence acquisition process ensures timely, transparent and capability-driven procurement for modernising the Armed Forces.
• Nodal Body: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by the Defence Minister, is the apex decision-making body.
• Process: The DAC grants Acceptance of Necessity (AoN), after which procurement proceeds through defined capital acquisition procedures prioritising indigenisation and operational readiness.
