Know about the 10th India International Science Festival, scheduled to be held at IIT Guwahati from Nov 30 to Dec 3, 2024, celebrating science and innovation in the Northeast!
The 10th edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF) will take place at IIT Guwahati from November 30 to December 3, 2024, marking a significant milestone as the festival reaches the Northeast for the first time. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, announced this at a press briefing at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.
IIT-Guwahati will host the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024, celebrating scientific achievements from November 30 to December 3. A highlight of the event will be a massive 10-meter-high replica of the moon, built to commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan mission. Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati, the festival aims to promote science and innovation across India.
With the theme “Transforming India into an S&T-driven Global Manufacturing Hub,” IISF-2024 aims to promote science-led industrial growth. The festival will highlight advancements in biotechnology, bioeconomy, and space technology, reinforcing India’s ambitions under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
Dr. Singh emphasized that this festival aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering the Northeast’s development, placing it at the center of India’s scientific progress. IIT Guwahati—a premier institute—symbolizes the region’s emergence as a hub for innovation, helping bridge connections between the Northeast and the rest of India.
The event reserves 30% of registrations for participants from the Northeast, providing opportunities for local talent to engage with renowned scientists and innovators. Young minds will have a chance to participate in competitions and experience cutting-edge innovations, sparking new aspirations in science and technology.
“This platform will fuel discussions shaping India’s future as a global leader,” said Dr. Singh, urging visitors to explore the Northeast’s vibrant culture, natural resources, and sustainable practices. The festival also aims to foster collaborations among scientists, industry leaders, and students, focusing on global challenges such as climate change, food security, and sustainable development.
IISF-2024 is being organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in coordination with several ministries and Vijnana Bharati. With India’s rapid progress in areas like space exploration and digital technology, the festival reaffirms the nation’s commitment to becoming a scientific and manufacturing powerhouse.
As Dr. Singh concluded, “This festival is not just about celebrating science—it’s about positioning the Northeast as a crucial player in India’s future growth.”
