Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s longest cable stayed bridge, Sudarshan Setu in Gujarat.

About Sudarshan Setu

It is a four lane cable-stayed bridge connecting Okha to Beyt Dwarka island in Gujarat. The Sudarshan setu length is 2.32 kilometers, with a central double span cable-stay portion covering 900 meters, accompanied by a 2.45 kilometers long approach road. It is the longest cable stayed bridge in the country, measuring around 2.32 km.

  • Signature Bridge: It was earlier named as ‘Signature Bridge’, is India’s longest cable stayed bridge, with solar panels installed on the upper portions of the footpath, generating one megawatt of electricity.
  • Beyt Dwarka, located near Okha port approximately 30 kilometers from Dwarka town, is home to the revered Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna.

About Dwarkadhish Temple Complex

Dwarkadhish Temple Complex is situated in the coastal town of Dwarka in the western state of Gujarat, dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is revered as the Dwarkadhish, meaning ‘the Lord of Dwarka.’  According to Hindu scriptures, Dwarka is believed to be one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) where devotion to Lord Vishnu, in the form of Krishna, is highly revered. 

  • It is said that Lord Krishna established his kingdom in Dwarka after leaving Mathura. 
  • It is believed to be situated at the same location where Lord Krishna’s majestic city of Dwarka once stood.

Architectural Style of Dwarkadhish Temple Complex

It predominantly reflect the Chalukyan style with influences from various other regional styles. Sanctum Sanctorum of the main temple houses the idol of Dwarkadhish, Lord Krishna, in his divine form. Festivals such as Janmashtami (the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna) and Sharad Purnima (full moon day in the autumn season) are celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm at Dwarkadhish Temple Complex, attracting devotees from far and wide.

  • Main Temple (Dwarkadhish Temple): It is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Built using limestone and sandstone, the temple features intricate carvings and ornate architecture.
