The Cabinet Ministers of India form a vital part of the Union Council of Ministers, which is the highest executive body in the Indian government. This council plays a crucial role in making important decisions for the government’s executive branch. The council is led by the Prime Minister of India. In 2023, the Cabinet Ministers of India hold the most significant and influential positions within the government, overseeing various ministries and departments. These ministers are selected from the members of the political party that wins the majority of seats in the Parliament, and they are entrusted with specific portfolios.

On July 7, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India made significant changes to his cabinet, marking the first reshuffle since May 2019. This reshuffle involved the introduction of new faces and the inclusion of allies from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

During a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, a total of 43 Members of Parliament (MPs) were sworn in as Ministers, including notable figures such as Narayan Rane, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ajay Bhatt, Bhupender Yadav, Shobha Karandlaje, Sunita Duggal, Meenakshi Lekhi, and others. Additionally, seven Ministers of State received promotions, namely Anurag Thakur, G Kishan Reddy, Paroshottam Rupala, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Raj Kumar Singh.

Before this significant reshuffle, 12 Ministers from the Modi Cabinet resigned following a phone call.

Furthermore, there have been recent changes in the cabinet as well. Kiren Rijiju, who served as the Law Minister of India, was replaced by Arjun Ram Meghwal. Meghwal had previously been in charge of the State Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Culture. These changes reflect the evolving dynamics within the Indian government.

On August 15, 1947, a historic day when India gained its independence from British rule, the nation’s inaugural cabinet of ministers was established. Jawaharlal Nehru assumed the role of the first prime minister, and his government comprised 14 additional ministers who played crucial roles in the early days of India’s independence.
