How Many Candidates Applied for UPSC 2023?

Lakhs of candidates apply for the UPSC exam held every year to select about 1000 candidates. Going by the number, the actual UPSC pass percentage of candidates is 0.2%.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Prelims

UPSC Prelims is the beginning stage of UPSC exams. It is the filtering stage, where the majority of candidates are filtered. Out of the total applicants, only about 1.12% qualify for the Mains stage.

For UPSC Prelims 2023, approximately 13 lakh candidates had applied, for a total vacancy of 1255. The prelims examination was held across 79 centers in India. Going by the trend, only about 5-6 lakh candidates may have actually appeared for the prelims examination.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Mains 2023

The result of the UPSC prelims 2023 was announced on June 12th, 2023. Out of the 13 lakh candidates, 14624 candidates secured the necessary marks to qualify for UPSC Mains.

These 14624 candidates applied for UPSC Mains 2023 by filling out the DAF-1. It is expected that a large majority of candidates will appear for the UPSC Main examination held between 15th to 24th September 2023.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Interview

Based on the result of UPSC Mains 2023, 2916 candidates were short-listed for the personality test to be conducted in Dholpur House, New Delhi. The total percentage of candidates shortlisted for the personality test, from the initial pool of 13 lakhs, is about 0.22%.

How many candidates applied for UPSC 2022?

The number of candidates who applied for UPSC 2022 was similar to previous years. The number of candidates applying for the exam has been increasing steadfast due to the perks and prestige associated with the service.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Prelims

A total of 11.52 lakh candidates had applied for UPSC prelims in the year 2022 for a total vacancy of 1011. The exam was conducted on June 5, 2022 across multiple centres in India. 

Candidates Applying for UPSC Mains

The result of the UPSC Prelims 2022 was announced on June 22nd and out of the 11.52 lakhs candidates, 13090 cleared the Prelims exam and qualified for Mains, which is about 1.13% of the total candidates applying for the exam.

The mains exam was conducted from 16th September to 25th September 2022 across 24 centres in India. 

Candidates Applying for UPSC Interview

According to the UPSC Mains 2022 result, which was announced on December 06, 2024, a total of 2529 candidates cleared UPSC Mains and qualified for interviews. This was about 0.219% of candidates who had initially applied for the exam.

How Many Candidates Applied for UPSC 2020?

The number of candidates applying for UPSC 2020 was comparatively lower, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. The actual number of appearing candidates was even lower due to the delay in conducting the examination.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Prelims

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, the UPSC Prelims 2020 was held on 4th October 2020 across 79 centres in the country. Approximately, 10 lakh students had registered for the total vacancy of 796. The actual number of candidates appearing for the exam was expected to be lower.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Mains

The result of the UPSC Prelims was announced on October 23, 2020. Out of the total of 10 lakh candidates, 10,500 candidates qualified for UPSC mains to be held from 8th January 2021 to 17th January 2021, across 24 centres.

Candidates Applying for UPSC Interview

The result of the UPSC Mains examination was declared on 23rd May 2021. A total of 2100 candidates qualified for UPSC Mains to be eligible for the UPSC Interview. The percentage of candidates qualifying for interviews out of total candidates was about 0.21%.

How Many Candidates Applied for UPSC EPFO 2023?

The UPSC conducts the EPFO exam to recruit officers for the Employees Provident Fund Organization. It is a central-level examination and is fairly popular among UPSC aspirants as an alternate career option. This is the reason why a large number of candidates apply for the EPFO exam along with UPSC CSE.

About 9.5 lakh candidates had applied for the EPFO Exam for a total vacancy of 577 posts, both EO/AO. A total of 1337 candidates were shortlisted for the interview round.
