Chandra Shekhar Azad Jayanti 2025 will be observed on July 23, 2025, to remember one of India’s most fearless revolutionaries. Chandra Shekhar Azad was known for his undying spirit, and unmatched courage during India’s struggle for independence. 

He pledged never to be captured alive by the British and he kept that promise till the end. Chandra Shekhar Azad birth anniversary 2025 gives a chance to the entire nation to revisit his sacrifices and legacy.

This year, India will celebrate the 119th birth anniversary of Chandra Shekhar Azad on 23rd July 2025. On this day, schools, colleges, and local communities across the country pay tribute through speeches, patriotic songs, exhibitions, and plays.

Chandra Shekhar Azad Biography

Chandra Shekhar Azad was born on 23rd July 1906 in Bhabhra village, located in present-day Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh. From a very young age, he was influenced by the injustices carried out under British rule.

Azad was affected by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which made him join the Indian freedom movement. At  the age of 15, he joined the Non-Cooperation Movement. When he was arrested, he told the magistrate that his name was “Azad,” his father’s name was “Swatantrata” (Freedom), and his home was “Jail”.

Later, he joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), where he became an active member along with Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. He was involved in the Kakori Train Robbery (1925) and played an important role in responding to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai.

Azad worked in the background, training young revolutionaries, collecting funds, and executing secret missions to weaken British authority. Here is Chandra Shekhar Azad’s Biography:

Chandra Shekhar Azad Political Journey

Azad’s approach to the freedom struggle was different from other leaders. While prominent figures like Mahatma Gandhi believed in non-violence and peaceful protest, Chandra Shekhar Azad felt that only armed resistance could shake the British rule in India.

He played a key role in giving a new direction to the revolutionary movement. Azad reorganised the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Some of his major contributions are:

  • Strengthening HSRA’s structure and planning revolutionary activities
  • Organising attacks to disrupt British transport and communication
  • Guiding and training young freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh
  • Arranging safe houses, secret meetings, and arms training for his team

His sense of patriotism and fearless actions made him a symbol of courage. 

Chandra Shekhar Azad Death

On 27th February 1931, Azad was captured by British police in Alfred Park, Allahabad. He was at Alfred Park in Allahabad when the British police surrounded him. Even though he was outnumbered, Azad didn’t give up. He pulled out his pistol and fought back fiercely, injuring several officers in the gunfight.

When he was left with just one bullet, he made a bold decision and shot it on himself.  He always said he would never be taken alive by the Britishers and he stayed true to his word. The place where he died, Alfred Park, was later renamed Chandrashekhar Azad Park in his memory.
