About Blue Flag Certification

• Awarding Authority: The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Denmark.
• Purpose: To certify beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators that meet the highest environmental, safety, and quality standards.
• Criteria: The certification requires compliance with 33 stringent parameters, including:
  • Cleanliness and waste management
  • Water quality and hygiene
  • Environmental education and awareness
  • Safety and lifeguard services
  • Environmental management and sustainable infrastructure
• Implementing Agency in India:
  • Managed by the Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
  • Part of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Project and BEAMS initiative — Beach Environment & Aesthetics Management Services.
