Quoting the World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs Report 2025, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that India’s unemployment rate is 2%, the lowest among G20 nations.

  • The Minister made the remarks during the signing of MoUs between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and ‘Mentor Together’ and ‘Quikr’ to boost employment opportunities and youth employability through the National Career Service (NCS) Portal.

About National Career Service (NCS)

  • About: An initiative by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, launched in July 2015, to transform the National Employment Service and provide a range of employment-related services.
  • Aim: The project bridges the gap between job seekers and employers by offering career counselling, vocational guidance, skill development information, apprenticeships, and internships.
  • Nodal Agency: Implemented by the Directorate General of Employment, Ministry of Labour & Employment.
  • NCS Portal
    • Overview: A nationwide online platform for job seekers and employers to interact and match job opportunities efficiently.
    • Content Repository: Offers information on over 3,000 occupations across 53 sectors.
    • Accessibility: Services are available online, via career centres, Common Service Centres, mobile devices, and cyber cafes.

Key Government Initiatives for Youth Employment

  1. PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) – 2025
    • Objective: Promote inclusive, sustainable job creation, with special focus on the manufacturing sector.
    • Goal: Incentivise employers to create new jobs and support first-time employees, accelerating employment-led economic growth.
  2. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) – 2015
    • Objective: Enable MFIs, NBFCs, Small Finance Banks, RRBs, Commercial Banks, and Cooperative Banks to provide low-interest loans to eligible entities.
    • Goal: Facilitate micro-enterprises, generate employment, and boost GDP growth through credit access.
  3. Start-Up India Scheme – 2016
    • Objective: Promote startups, generate employment, and create wealth.
    • Focus: Build a robust startup ecosystem, transforming India into a nation of job creators rather than job seekers.
  4. PM SVANidhi – 2020
    • Objective: Provide working capital loans to street vendors to help them recover from the impact of COVID-19, ensuring livelihood restoration and sustained employment.
