Export Promotion Measures By Government

Recently, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has taken steps to enhance the competitiveness, cost-effectiveness and reach of India’s exports.

As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Report, India’s Total Exports Grow by 6.01% to Reach Record $824.9 Billion in 2024–25, Up from $778.1 Billion in 2023–24.
In March 2025, India’s services exports reached US$35.6 billion, marking 18.6% year-on-year growth compared to US$30.0 billion in March 2024.
In 2024–25, merchandise exports excluding petroleum products rose to a record US$374.1 billion, registering a 6.0% increase from US$352.9 billion in 2023–24 — the highest ever annual non-petroleum merchandise exports.

Recent Export Promotion Measures By The Government

Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) Scheme Restored: The Government has allocated ₹18,233 crore under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme for the financial year 2025–26.
- The RoDTEP benefits have been reinstated for: Advance Authorization (AA) holders, Export-Oriented Units (EOUs) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units.

About RoDTEP Scheme

The RoDTEP scheme, launched on January 1, 2021, is designed to refund embedded taxes and duties that are not reimbursed under any other export incentive scheme.
This includes taxes such as : Central and state taxes on fuel used in transportation, Electricity duties, Mandi taxes, Stamp duties on export documents, Any other unrebated taxes.
It is compliant with World Trade Organization (WTO) norms and implemented via a comprehensive end-to-end digital platform to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The RoDTEP Committee operates within the Department of Revenue
India disbursed over ₹57,976 crore in RoDTEP benefits from January 2021 to March 2025.

Removal of Port Restrictions for Leather Exports: The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has lifted port-specific restrictions for certain leather items.
- Finished leather, wet blue leather, and East India tanned leather can now be exported from any port or inland container depot, instead of only through designated ports.
CLRI Testing: The government has done away with the requirement for testing and certification by the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) for the export of specific leather items.
GI Tag: East India tanned leather, produced using a special process involving vegetable dyes, has earned Tamil Nadu a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
