| Fisheries | Aquaculture |
| Fisheries refer to the capture, processing, and marketing of fish and other aquatic organisms from natural water bodies. | Aquaculture refers to the controlled farming and cultivation of aquatic organisms under managed conditions. |
| Fisheries are largely extractive in nature, as they depend on harvesting naturally available fish stocks. | Aquaculture is productive and culture-based, as fish are bred, reared, and harvested by humans. |
| Fisheries operate in natural water bodies such as oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. | Aquaculture is practiced in artificial or managed systems such as ponds, tanks, cages, and raceways. |
