Geography of Red Sea
Red Sea is bordered by six countries:
Eastern shore :Saudi Arabia and Yemen
Western shore :Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, and Djibouti
South :Connected to the Indian ocean in the south through the Bab el Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden.
North: Sinai Peninsula, the Gulf of Aqaba, and the Gulf of Suez (leading to the Suez Canal). Occupies a part of Great Rift Valley
Global 200 Ecoregion: The Red Sea is part of the Global 200 Ecoregions and lies over the Red Sea Rift, making it part of the Great Rift Valley.
Location: It is a semi-enclosed extension of the Indian Ocean, situated between Africa and Asia.
Connections: The Red Sea connects to the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Aden and Bab el Mandeb Strait.
Northern Bifurcation: The Sinai Peninsula divides the northern Red Sea into the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez, linking it to the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal.
Notable Islands: Tiran Island (near the Gulf of Aqaba) and Shadwan Island (at the entrance of the Gulf of Suez).
Al Wajh Bank: Located in the northern Red Sea, known for its unique biodiversity.
Located at the southern entrance of the Red Sea, connecting it to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
Strait of Tiran
Situated at the northern end of the Red Sea, separating the Sinai Peninsula from the Saudi Arabian coastline and providing access to the Gulf of Aqaba.
