The Union Cabinet approved Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan with total outlay of Rs.79,156 crore (Central Share: Rs.56,333 crore and State Share: Rs. 22,823 crore).
About PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan
- Aim: For improving the socio-economic condition of tribal communities, by adopting saturation coverage for tribal families in tribal-majority villages and aspirational districts.
- Coverage: It will cover 549 districts and 2,740 blocks spread across all tribal majority villages across 30 States / UTs.

- As per 2011 Census, India has a Scheduled Tribe (ST) population of 10.45 crore, out of which 75 communities located in 18 States and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been categorized as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

- Components: Responsible Ministry: Each ministry is responsible for implementing relevant schemes through the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST).
- Goal-I: Developing Enabling Infrastructure
- Pucca Housing for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Households:
- Access to pucca houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) (Gramin).
- Additional entitlements include tapped water (Jal Jeevan Mission), electricity (Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme-RDSS), and Ayushman Bharat Card (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana-PMJDY) for eligible households.
- Village Infrastructure Improvement:
- Ensure all-weather road connectivity to ST-majority villages under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
- Provide access to mobile connectivity (Bharat Net) and internet..
- Goal-II: Promotion of Economic Empowerment
- Skill Development and Entrepreneurship:
- Access to training programs under Skill India Mission and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS).
- Ensure ST boys/girls can enrol in long-term skill courses after 10th/12th grade.
- Provide marketing support through Tribal Multipurpose Marketing Centre (TMMC).
- Goal-III: Universalization of Access to Good Education
- Improving Education for ST Students:
- Increase Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) to national levels in both school and higher education through Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
- Goal-IV: Healthy Lives and Dignified Ageing
- Improve access to quality health facilities and meet national standards for Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), and immunisation coverage.
- Mapping and Monitoring under the Abhiyan: The tribal villages covered under the Abhiyan would be mapped on PM Gati Shakti Portal with the gaps identified by the concerned department for its scheme specific requirements.

Schemes Under the Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyaan
- Tribal Home Stay: 1000 Home stays will be promoted under Swadesh Darshan through the Ministry of Tourism.
- Swadesh Darshan Scheme was launched in 2014-15 for integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits. E.g: Buddhist Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Desert Circuit etc.

- Sustainable Livelihood for Forest Rights Holders (FRA):
- Forest Rights Holders are individuals or communities who have legally recognized rights to access, manage, and use forest lands and resources.
- In India, for example, the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, commonly known as the Forest Rights Act (FRA), grants these rights.

- Focus on FRA Patta Holders: The initiative targets 22 lakh FRA patta (title deed) holders living in forest areas.
- Infrastructure Upgradation: The Abhiyan aims to Improve infrastructure of Ashram schools/hostels/Tribal schools /Govt residential schools for upgradation on the lines of PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI Schools).
- Advanced facilities for diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease: Centres of Competence (CoC) will be established in AIIMS and leading state institutes where Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is prevalent.
- Tribal Multipurpose Marketing Centre:
- Aim: 100 Tribal Multipurpose Marketing Centres (TMMCs) will be set up to enhance marketing for tribal products and improve infrastructure.
