Three Major Ports Recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated three major ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). 

What are Green Hydrogen Hubs ? 

• Green Hydrogen Hubs are dedicated industrial and infrastructural clusters where green hydrogen (hydrogen produced using renewable energy like solar or wind through electrolysis of water) is produced, stored, transported, and utilized in various sectors.
• They act as regional centers connecting production, demand, and technology for large-scale hydrogen use.

Ports Recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs

• Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla (Gujarat): Western corridor hub facilitating an export-oriented green hydrogen ecosystem.
• V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu):  Southern hub enabling hydrogen and ammonia bunkering along global trade routes.
• Paradip Port Authority, Paradip (Odisha): Eastern corridor hub with proximity to industrial clusters and renewable generation zones.

The recognition promotes cluster-based development, ensuring logistical efficiency and early-stage project viability.

Policy and Implementation Framework

• Based on revised Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVIC) and Green Hydrogen Hub Guidelines (June 27, 2025).
• Component B2 Provision: Allows MNRE to recognise Green Hydrogen Hubs without direct financial aid, enabling them to access incentives under other schemes.
• Projects located in these hubs become eligible for benefits under related Central and State Government programs supporting renewable energy and hydrogen infrastructure.
