Applications are being invited from start-ups and MSMEs from India and Australia for the Climate Smart Agritech cohort of the India Australia RISE Accelerator.

About the India Australia Rapid Innovation and Start-up Expansion (RISE) Accelerator

Launch: The Accelerator program is launched in 2023 with the First Round focusing on ‘The Circular Economy Opportunities’ to support start-ups and MSMEs in validating, adapting, and piloting their technologies for new markets.
Implementing Agencies: RISE Accelerator is a bilateral program led by CSIRO- Australia’s national science agency and the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog.
Aim: To enable start-ups with mature tech-based innovations to fast-track their cross-border social, economic and environmental impact through cross-border innovation ecosystem

Focus Areas:

RISE Accelerator

RISE Cohort: A new cohort, consisting 10 – 15 start-ups and SMEs from India and Australia with innovative solutions focussed on addressing the challenge statements are supported in each round.
Program Overview:
- It is a 9-month program which is split into two phases,
  - Discovery phase: e-learning and funded in-person travel within Australia and India
  - Pilot phase: Testing or demonstrating the technology or solution in the respective target market
- Grant: It is subject to achievement of program milestones up to A$75,000 for Australian organisations, or INR 4.5 million for Indian organisations
- Coaching and Connections: It is a dedicated facilitators and subject matter experts guide startups’ and SMEs’ cross-border planning and activities, and provide network connections

Climate Smart Agriculture

Definition: As per the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), CSA is defined as,
- Agriculture that sustainably increases productivity, enhances resilience (adaptation), reduces/removes GHGs (mitigation) where possible, and enhances achievement of national food security and development goals.
Principle and Pillars: CSA principle goal is identified as food security and development while productivity, adaptation, and mitigation are identified as the three interlinked pillars necessary for achieving this goal.
Implementation Approach: FAO recommends CSA approach should be implemented through five actions points,
- Expanding the evidence base for CSA
- Supporting enabling policy frameworks
- Strengthening national and local institutions
- Enhancing funding and financing options
- Implementing CSA practices at field level.
