Introduction of Sagarmala 2.0
- It will be an upgraded version of the Sagarmala Programme with a new focus on shipbuilding, repair, breaking, and recycling.
- Announcement of ₹40,000 crore budgetary support to drive investments.
- Aligned with Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV 2047) to position India among the top five shipbuilding nations globally.
Launch of Sagarmala Startup Innovation Initiative (S2I2)
- Aims to promote Research, Innovation, Startups, and Entrepreneurship (RISE) in the maritime sector.
- Encourages green shipping, smart ports, logistics tech, shipbuilding, and coastal sustainability.
- Provides funding, mentorship, and industry partnerships for maritime startups.
About Sagarmala Programme
- Launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW).
- Objective: Enhance port-led development, reduce logistics costs, and improve coastal trade.
- The four pillars of the Sagarmala Programme are:

- Port Modernization & New Port Development: De-bottlenecking and capacity expansion of existing ports and development of new greenfield ports
- Port Connectivity Enhancement: Enhancing the connectivity of the ports to the hinterland, optimizing cost and time of cargo movement through multi-modal logistics solutions including domestic waterways (inland water transport and coastal shipping)
- Port-linked Industrialization: Developing port-proximate industrial clusters and Coastal Economic Zones to reduce logistics cost and time of EXIM and domestic cargo
- Coastal Community Development: Promoting sustainable development of coastal communities through skill development & livelihood generation activities, fisheries development, coastal tourism etc.
- Projects under Sagarmala:
- 839 projects worth ₹5.79 lakh crore planned.
- 272 projects completed with an investment of ₹1.41 lakh crore.
- 234 port modernization projects worth ₹2.91 lakh crore, with 103 completed.
- 279 connectivity projects (₹2.06 lakh crore), 92 completed (1,500 km of port links).
- 14 industrialization projects (₹55,000 crore), 9 completed.
- 310 projects (₹26,000 crore) under Coastal Community Development benefiting 30,000+ fishermen.

- Coastal shipping increased by 118% over a decade.
- Inland waterway cargo rose by 700%.
- Nine Indian ports rank among the world’s top 100, with Vizag in the top 20 container ports.
