About Mission Sudarshan Chakra

• Objective: 
  • The Sudarshan Chakra initiative aims to provide comprehensive aerial protection for India’s critical infrastructures and military assets. 
  • The initiative will focus on advanced air defence systems, ensuring the country’s preparedness against evolving aerial threats.
  • To develop an indigenous air defence system by 2035 to neutralize enemy attacks and retaliate effectively.
• Coverage: Strategic and civilian areas including hospitals, railways, faith centres, and other critical infrastructure.
• Inspiration: Named after Lord Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra, symbolizing a protective shield.
• Timeline: Complete operational capability by 2035.
• Indigenous Development: Entirely developed under India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, Sudharshan Chakra will rely on domestic research, development, and manufacturing, incorporating state-of-the-art AI, directed-energy weapons, lasers, and drones.

Capabilities and Architecture of Sudarshan Chakra

The precise details of Mission Sudarshan Chakra remain classified, its conceptual framework suggests it will function as a highly advanced, multi-layered defense system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome but with far more enhanced capabilities

• Surveillance and Detection: Utilizes long-range radars, space-based sensors, and civilian-military radar fusion for comprehensive coverage and early threat detection.
• Kinetic Defense: The system will rely on Akash-NG, MRSAM, and future hypersonic interceptors for neutralizing missiles, UAVs, and aircraft across various ranges.
• Non-Kinetic Defense: In addition to kinetic interceptors, directed-energy weapons, electronic warfare measures, and cyber countermeasures will be employed to disrupt or disable incoming threats.
• Integrated Command and Control (C2) Network: The system will feature an AI-enabled decision-making framework, allowing for seamless coordination across India’s tri-services for quick and coordinated responses.
• Civil Defense Layer: The mission will include measures to ensure the resilience of critical infrastructure and urban centers, providing safety for civilian populations while ensuring national security.
• Global Comparisons: Similar to Israel’s Iron Dome and the proposed US Golden Dome, However Sudharshan Chakra will be tailored to India’s specific defense needs, with future-ready enhancements.
