This tricolour flag, composed of saffron, white, and green horizontal stripes, will be raised at numerous educational institutions, offices, and public areas throughout the nation. The flag’s design and colours carry rich historical and cultural significance, serving as a powerful national symbol for India. It embodies the country’s unity, diversity, and aspirations.

However, along with the celebrations, it is important to familiarise oneself with the ‘Flag Code of India 2002’ to ensure proper usage of the National Flag. This Code, which came into effect on January 26, 2002, regulates the hoisting, use, and display of the Indian National Flag. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has provided key information regarding the Flag Code of India, 2002.

To ensure the proper handling of the Indian National Flag, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Flag Code of India have established guidelines. These guidelines emphasise treating the flag with the utmost respect and dignity. They include hoisting the flag briskly and lowering it slowly, never allowing it to touch the ground or water, refraining from using it as clothing, and ensuring it is not displayed when damaged or defaced.
