Governors in Indian states are the ceremonial heads with some constitutionally significant roles to play in maintaining the scheme of the Constitution. And, while the role is mainly symbolic, the Governor acts as an important link between the state and the Centre, a guarantor of the constitutionality of the state’s sojourn and smooth administration.

First Female Governor of India

The first female Governor of India was Sarojini Naidu. She made history by becoming the Governor of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) in 1947, shortly after India’s independence.
