  • In overseas Indian missions, the top-ranking individuals are the Heads of Missions, such as ambassadors, high commissioners, and permanent representatives.

  • The IFS officials receive many perks and benefits under the 7th pay commission, which we have listed below. 
  • In addition, those who have obtained two increments in the previous two years would be entitled to three increases when they advance to the senior level. Following employment, IFS officials get the following benefits:
    • Dearness Allowance (DA): It is a cost of living adjustment allowance that helps officers cope with inflation and rising living costs.
    • House Rent Allowance (HRA): IFS officers posted in cities without official accommodation receive HRA to cover their rental expenses.
    • Transport Allowance: This allowance is provided to cover the expenses of commuting between home and office.
  • Special Foreign Allowance: Officers posted abroad receive this allowance, which varies based on the purchasing power parity of the country of posting.
  • Foreign Service Special Pay (FSSP): IFS officers receive this pay as a special allowance to compensate for the additional responsibilities and hardships faced during foreign postings.
  • Foreign Language Allowance: Officers proficient in foreign languages receive an additional allowance for using and maintaining their language skills.
  • Furniture Allowance: IFS officers posted abroad are given an allowance to furnish their official residence.
  • Leave Travel Concession (LTC): Officers and their families are entitled to LTC to travel to their hometown or any destination within India during their leave period.

IAS Officer vs IFS Officer Salary 2024: A Comparative Analysis with Allowances

  • A IAS officer’s base pay, without allowances, is INR 56,100. Allowances for IAS officers include House Rent Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Travel Allowance, and so on. 
  • The IFS pay, on the other hand, is roughly INR 60,000 per month, including all allowances. 
    • Furthermore, if an IFS officer is assigned outside of India, he or she receives a Special Foreign Allowance, and the IFS Officer’s Salary may rise to INR 2.40 lakhs depending on the country.
  • Most people believe the IFS compensation is the same as the IAS salary. However, they differ, and the allowances vary greatly depending on the nation to which an IFS officer is assigned. 
    • Every year, around 10-15 individuals are chosen for positions in the Indian Foreign Service. 
  • After passing the whole test procedure, candidates go through training, and it usually takes around 3 years from the day a candidate joins the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) as a Foreign Service Probationer/Officer to be confirmed in the IFS.
