Jharkhand Foundation Day Theme 2025

The special theme for the Silver Jubilee year celebration has been officially announced as Jharkhand @ 25. This theme provides a perspective on the existence of the state. History of Statehood

The demand for a separate Jharkhand state has relation to the historical roots. This movement started with efforts which were aimed at protecting the cultural identity and land of the tribal people in the Santhal Pargana and Chota Nagpur Plateau regions.

Post-Independence Momentum: After the independence of India, the movement got momentum under the leadership of groups like the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and others.

Core Demands: These movements emphasized the requirement for self-governance for the indigenous people of the region.

Formal Creation: The long aspiration for an independent identity was accomplished when the State was formalized by the Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000.

Birsa Munda, The Ulgulan and its Socio-Political Impact

Birsa Munda (1875-1900) is central to the identity of Jharkhand.  His birth date shares with the foundation date of the Jharkhand State. He was known as Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He led a powerful tribal rebellion against the exploitative landlords and British colonial rule.

The Ulgulan (Great Tumult): The objective of this movement was to secure land rights and end forced labor. It also aimed at bringing religious reform (the Birsait cult).

Legacy: The struggle of Birsa Munda had a lasting impact. It indirectly led to the enactment of the Chota Nagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act, 1908. This act remains an important piece of legislation for protecting the land rights of the Munda and other tribal communities.

Flagship Schemes and Policy Launches 2025

Foundation Day is an important administrative date. It is used to launch major infrastructure projects and new welfare programs. The major initiatives and schemes expected during the 2025 celebration include:

Aapki Yojana Aapki Sarkar Aapke Dwar: This flagship campaign is planned to run from November 18 to December 15, 2025. The aim of this campaign is to deliver government services directly to citizens at the panchayat and block levels. The priority is to issue essential certificates like residential, income, and caste and connect beneficiaries to different welfare schemes.

Maiyan Balwaan Yojana: This scheme is expected to be launched to bring economic empowerment to women. It will build upon the existing Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana and connect beneficiaries to the JOHAR Scheme. 

Infrastructure Inaugurations: The state will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects. Some potential inaugurations include Engineering Colleges in Godda and Bokaro and some developments in health, tourism, and urban sectors.

Jharkhand State Uchchtar Puraskar Yojana: This higher education scheme will recognise performance by institutions, faculty, and students, possibly featuring the launch of the ‘Jharkhand Rajya Shodh Ratna’ award.

Jharkhand’s Economic Potential and Mineral Wealth

Jharkhand is widely known as the “Ruhr of India” and the ‘Land of Forests‘ as the word Jharkhand literally means “bushland.” The state is rich in mineral resources, holding a significant share of total reserves of India.

Mineral Resources: It is a key producer of Iron Ore, Coal, Mica, Copper Ore, Uranium, Kyanite, and Bauxite.

Economic Structure: While resource extraction plays a major role, agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for approximately 80% of the rural population.

Development Challenges: Despite its vast mineral wealth and the introduction of initiatives like the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, the state continues to face challenges such as poverty, Naxalism, and the need to translate its resource richness into equitable human development for all its citizens.
