The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil conflict, which was happened between May and July 1999. Pakistani soldiers and militants illegally entered the premises of the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) and captured and occupied strategic positions to attack the Indian territory and soldiers. Then, the Indian armed forces launched Operation Vijay to reclaim these positions. The war ended officially on 26 July 1999, and India declared victory over Pakistan, leading to the establishment of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is not just memorizing the victory day for the India and Indian soldiers. On this day many fearless Indian soldiers also sacrifice their lives and show their bravery towards their motherland. It is a day to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those soldiers. It reminds us of the unity and resilience of the nation in the face of adversity. 26 July Kargil Vijay Diwas is also a reminder for the people to highlight the strategic and tactical brilliance displayed by the Indian armed forces.
Many people often think about that “Are Vijay Diwas and Kargil Vijay Diwas the same?” Typically, the answer to this statement is “No”. Kargil Vijay Diwas is a memorable day which specifically celebrated and remembered as the victory day for the Kargil War, Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 16th December to mark the victory over Pakistan in the war of 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. Although both days celebrate military victories, they commemorate different events.

It is a pilgrimage site for many people, where they come to pay their respect and honour to the deceased soldiers and our fallen heroes. The memorial features inscriptions of the names of the soldiers and a museum that displays artifacts and documents related to the war.
