List of Chief Ministers of India 2023: As per Article 164, the Governor appoints the Chief Minister. Article 167 stipulates that the CM is a liaison between the Governor and the state council of ministers. Although our constitution doesn’t specify educational qualifications for the Chief Minister’s nomination, it doesn’t mean the Governor can freely appoint anyone. The Chief Minister wields executive powers and is responsible for governance and administrative duties. Article 167 of the Constitution outlines the responsibilities that Chief Ministers must adhere to. Presently, India has 36 Chief Ministers representing 28 states and 8 union territories. Being a member of either the lower or upper legislative assembly of the respective state is a prerequisite for becoming Chief Minister.
