Allahabad High Court upholds uniform legal marriage age, says Shariat cannot override PCMA

  • The Allahabad High Court ruled that the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA), 2006 prevails over personal laws where conflict arises.
  • The Act prescribes a minimum marriage age of 21 years for men and 18 years for women.
  • The judgment reinforces child protection, constitutional morality and the primacy of parliamentary legislation over inconsistent customary practices.
India, Indonesia deepen defence partnership with BrahMos, Astra pacts

  • India and Indonesia signed agreements for the export of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and Astra Mk-1 beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles.

  • The Guwahati Declaration was adopted during the BRICS Anti-Drug Working Group meeting.
  • It promotes intelligence sharing, capacity building, coordinated action against synthetic drugs and precursor chemicals, and enhanced international cooperation to combat transnational narcotics trafficking.

IIM-B first to establish its overseas campus in Indonesia (GS-2: International Relation) AIR
  • The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will become the first IIM to establish an overseas campus, located in Indonesia.
