What is Nobel Prize in Chemistry

Nobel Prize in Chemistry is one of the most prestigious international awards given annually by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

It honors scientists and researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry from discovering new elements and molecules to developing groundbreaking materials, medicines, or technologies that benefit humanity.

Established in 1901 in accordance with the will of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite this award continues to celebrate excellence, innovation and the spirit of scientific advancement.

First Nobel Prize in Chemistry

In 1901, the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry was given to a Dutch chemist Jacobus Henricus van Hoff. He was awarded on his pioneer work on the dynamics of chemical and osmotic pressure of solutions.

It is through his discoveries that scientists were able to know how chemical reactions take place and the way substances interact on a molecular scale. The work by van ’t Hoff formed the basis of contemporary physical chemistry that then spawned a tradition of honoring outstanding work in science by awarding the Nobel Prize.
