Oommen Chandy, an Indian politician and statesman, held the position of the tenth chief minister of Kerala for two terms: from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. Oommen Chandy, the ex-Chief Minister of Kerala, passed away at the age of 79 early on 18th of July, 2023. It is said that the respected Congress leader breathed his last at 4:25 am in a private hospital in Bengaluru, where he was receiving treatment for cancer. In honor of the former chief minister, the Kerala government has declared Tuesday as a public holiday and announced two days of mourning.

According to the party, the body of the prominent Congress leader Chandy was transported from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram on the afternoon of the 18th. Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala assembly, announced that the funeral ceremony will take place at Puthuppally church near Kottayam on the afternoon of the 20th.
