The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024. The event features approximately 4,400 athletes from around the globe, competing in 22 different sports. These competitions will be held at some of Paris’s most iconic venues, including the Eiffel Tower, the Chateau de Versailles, and the Grand Palais, providing a stunning backdrop for this celebration of athletic excellence and inclusivity.
India has been a proud participant in the Paralympics, showcasing the resilience and strength of its athletes. The 2024 Paralympic Games are set to be another milestone in India’s sports history, with high expectations for a strong performance.
The Paralympic Games originated as a small gathering of British World War II veterans in 1948 and have grown into one of the largest international sporting events. Murlikant Petkar’s gold in 1972 also stands as India’s first Paralympic gold medal. His achievement laid the foundation for future athletes to follow in his footsteps and bring glory to the nation. He was a former soldier in the Indian Army. He was injured during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, which led him to take up sports as part of his rehabilitation.
