UPSC Prelims Postponed: Get the latest updates on the rescheduling of the UPSC Prelims exam and what it means for your preparation.
Recently, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday decided to reschedule the civil services preliminary test from May 26 2024 to 16 June, 2024.

Every year, the commission selects officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among other services, through three levels of civil services examinations: preliminary, main, and interview.
“The preliminary examination for civil services, 2024, was supposed to take place on 26 May, but the Union Public Service Commission has postponed it due to the impending General Election 2024, which is scheduled from from 19 April 2024 to 1 June 2024 to elect the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha.
The UPSC 2024 Exam dates are released along with the UPSC Calendar 2024. The UPSC 2024 Preliminary exam is now scheduled for June 16, 2024, and the UPSC Mains 2024 exam will take place from September 20, 2024, lasting for 7 days.

Three stages make up the UPSC Exam Pattern: the Personality Test (Interview), Mains, and Prelims. The General Studies (GS) Paper I and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) Paper II are two objective-type papers that make up the preliminary exam. Nine descriptive papers make up the Mains; these include two optional subject papers, two General Studies papers, one essay paper, and two language papers.
The candidates’ personalities, suitability for a career in the public service, and general comprehension of numerous topics are assessed by the Personality Test. The General Studies I and General Studies II (also known as CSAT) objective-type papers make up the UPSC Prelims, the first level of the IAS Exam. These exams are given in two sessions on the same day using an offline format (pen and paper).

The UPSC Mains exam pattern includes nine theory-based papers, all of which are descriptive in nature. Among these nine papers, seven will be considered for creating the merit list. As part of the UPSC Mains, candidates will need to choose one optional subject for the examination.
