Sindhi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken primarily by Sindhi communities in India and the Sindh region of Pakistan. It uses the Perso-Arabic script and, in India, sometimes the Devanagari script. Sindhi literature spans a broad spectrum, from ancient Sufi poetic traditions to contemporary prose, including novels, short stories, essays, and plays. Modern Sindhi literature continues to develop, tackling modern-day issues while retaining its rich cultural legacy.

Sindhi literature has a long and vibrant history, contributing significantly to the cultural richness not only of the Sindh region but of the Indian subcontinent as a whole. It captures the spirit of Sindh’s history, culture, and the life philosophy of its people over centuries. Figures like Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, whose work in Shah Jo Risalo is revered for its spiritual depth and poetic beauty, and Sachal Sarmast, known for his Sufi poetry, have made lasting contributions to Sindhi literature.
