QpiAI-Indus: India’s Most Powerful Quantum Computer

QpiAI, (Bengaluru based startups) announced the launch of one of India’s most powerful quantum computers ‘QpiAI-Indus’ on the occasion of World Quantum Day on 14th April 2025.

  • QpiAI, one of the 8 startups selected under the National Quantum Mission, coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

About QpiAI-Indus

QpiAI-Indus

  • It is a full-stack quantum computing system combining advanced quantum hardware, scalable control, and optimized software.
  • Quantum Capabilities: It features 25 superconducting qubits, integrates next-gen Quantum-HPC software, and utilizes AI-enhanced quantum solutions for hybrid computing.
  • Applications: The quantum system targets innovation across fields like life sciences, drug discovery, materials science, mobility, logistics, sustainability, and climate action.

National Quantum Mission

  • The Union Cabinet approved the National Quantum Mission (NQM) on 19th April 2023. The total cost of the mission is Rs. 6003.65 crore for the period 2023-24 to 2030-31.

Mission Goal

  • Aim: Seed, nurture, and scale up scientific and industrial R&D to create a vibrant and innovative ecosystem in Quantum Technology (QT),
    • Positioning India as a global leader in Quantum Technologies & Applications (QTA).

Key Objectives of NQM

  1. Quantum Computing Development:
    • Develop intermediate-scale quantum computers with 50-1000 qubits over the next 8 years, using superconducting and photonic technologies.
  2. Quantum Communication:
    • Satellite-based secure quantum communications over 2000 km within India.
    • Establish long-distance secure quantum communications with other countries.
    • Develop inter-city quantum key distribution over 2000 km.
    • Build multi-node quantum networks with quantum memories.
  3. Quantum Sensing and Metrology:
    • Develop magnetometers with high sensitivity and atomic clocks for precision timing, communications, and navigation.
  4. Quantum Materials Design:
    • Support the design and synthesis of quantum materials, such as superconductors, novel semiconductor structures, and topological materials, to aid in quantum device fabrication.
